BELFAST UKULELE FESTIVAL KICKS OFF IN STYLE WITH AN EVENING OF FUN AT THE DEER’S HEAD!

5PM – MEET & GREET
Upstairs @ The Deer’s Head
Swap your e-ticket for a wristband, grab a drink and get yourself settled in with our welcome team. This is a great chance to meet other festival go-ers and find your bearings at Belfast’s only Brewpub!

7 PM – BIG ‘OL JAM SESSION
Downstairs @ The Deer’s Head
We all love a uke jam, so take part in Norn Iron’s biggest yet! We might even set some records here… The Belfast Ukulele Festival Songbook will be available to download closer to the time, so make sure you have it for the Jam. And then no matter what, you’ll have played in the BUF!

8 PM – OPEN MIC
Upstairs @ The Deer’s Head
Give it your best and try your hand at open mic at BUF!
Welcoming players of all styles and experiences, from first timers to old pros, we foster an open, laid back and encouraging atmosphere for people to sing, play and to listen and enjoy. Quite simply, we want you to enjoy the experience and play a tune for us!
This will be popular so book your place. To take part, just email us to book your slot!

You must have your Festival ticket in order to take part in the meet ‘n greet and the open mic session.


SATURDAY 20TH AUGUST
A BIG DAY OF FUN, FECKIN FABULOUS TALENT AND MAYBE A WEE BIT OF SIGHT-SEEING!

11AM – CITY CENTRE JAM
Starting from the Deer’s Head @ 11AM
We’re heading to a popular busking spot in the centre of the shopping district to take Belfast by storm! This is gonna be the largest ukulele busk Belfast has ever seen, so tune up and take part.
Meet at the Deer’s head at 11 and walk round to start for 11.30AM

7PM – BIG CONCERT GIG SO IT IS.

This is the big one! We’ve imported the finest of ukulele entertainment for your pleasure.

AMELIA COBURN
Nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, Middlesbrough’s Amelia Coburn plays with influences ranging through, but not exclusive to, folk, jazz, new wave, classic rock and pop and much more besides she explores an ethereal world hovering on the edges of reality.
Armed with her trusty ukulele, Amelia’s distinctive and beguiling voice is a captivating tool in her musical storytelling and recent singles Dublin Serenade and her latest, Perfect Storm, have gained national radio airplay in the UK and beyond.
Amelia has performed at Cambridge Folk festival, Czech Ukulele Festival, GNUF and in support and on stage with Steve Harley, Vin Garbutt and the Wedding Present as well as her own sell-out solo shows.

DEAD MANS UKE
Dead Mans Uke are an award winning two man band playing dirt swing, hokum and old blues tunes as well as crazy covers and anything else they fancy on double bass and a resonator ukulele that belonged to Tiny Tim… they play shows in bars, music venues, parties, festivals and theatres across the UK and recently in Prague, Dublin, Austria, Paris, Bavaria, Poland, Las Vegas, Palm Springs and even Saudi Arabia…

UKULELE SIMON
Ukulele Simon is a ukulele player, live performer and YouTuber from Norwich, UK. His signature style uses effects, looping, beatbox and anything unconventional to push the limits of what the ukulele can do.
He has performed at numerous acclaimed ukulele festivals (including GNUF and The Ukulele Festival Of Scotland) as well as becoming an endorsee of Flight Ukuleles.
Simon is now focussing on creating regular content to help inspire more people to do weird stuff with their ukuleles.

EMER MAGUIRE
COMPÉRE EXTRA-ORDINAIRE!
Emer Maguire is passionate about communication and presenting. Emer is an international award winning science communicator, and a double Irish Radio award-winning BBC presenter. She is a four time TEDx speaker, a conference and event MC, presenter of the podcast ‘Elementary My Dear’ and a musical comedian with a sold out Edinburgh Fringe run under her belt. Emer is also a qualified and practicing Speech and Language Therapist. In other words, she loves communicating in any way she can. With years of experience in a multitude of mediums, Emer is a communications expert. She has developed and delivered communication workshops for universities, private organisations and companies, and the public.

1PM – FUNNY SONG COMPETITION
Outside on the main stage @ The Deer’s Head
Write and perform your own song! Contact Belfast Ukulele Festival to send us your entry and we’ll line you up with a spot for the main stage on Sunday to perform your masterpiece.

2PM – GROUP PERFORMANCES
Outside on the main stage @ The Deer’s Head
All groups attending are very welcome to perform! If you’re part of a large uke collective or a small group, get your 30 minutes of fame on the main stage! All abilities and styles are encouraged create some live music in an inclusive atmosphere.
