COCO – RnB, Hiphop, Dancehall & Afrobeat Party

Rhythm and blues, sometimes shortened to R&B or R’n’B, is a popular music genre that started in 1940s African-American neighbourhoods. When “rocking, jazz based music” was first popular, record labels used the word to refer to records that were sold primarily to African Americans.

Hip hop, often referred to as hip-hop, rap, or disco rap, is a popular music genre that was created in the Bronx, a borough of New York City, in the early 1970s by African American and Caribbean American immigrants. Rapping, a rhythmic delivery of lyrical discourse, is sometimes accompanied with stylised rhythmic music, typically centred around drum beats. Hip-hop music began as an anti-drug and anti-violence genre.

Amapiano, a name that may be loosely translated to “the pianos” in Zulu or Xhosa, is a style of house music that first surfaced in South Africa in the mid 2010s. Synths and broad percussive basslines distinguish this deep house, jazz, and lounge fusion.

Afrobeats is a mix of West African music with elements of Hip-Hop, Caribbean Dancehall, R&B, and EDM that is typically best suited for our partying evenings! Artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and P-Square, to mention a few, were among the first to introduce this new sound to the diaspora.Dancehall combines Afrobeat, funk, jazz, highlife, and traditional melodies to create music with deep/political significance and captivating, enigmatic instrumentation.
